Cognitive Science
Cognitive Science is the interdisciplinary study of human thought and behavior. It is a relatively young field that combines methods, theories, and applications from many disciplines including: philosophy, psychology, linguistics, computer science, engineering, neuroscience, and anthropology.
Since the 1980s and 1990s, especially with the boom of cognitive neuroscience and new brain imaging techniques, cognitive science degrees, programs, and departments have been appearing in leading research institutions across the United States.
Students pursuing a cognitive science undergraduate degree at UC Merced will gain a broad knowledge of cognitive science, including:
- High-level processing (e.g., reasoning, memory, and categorization)
- Cognitive modeling
- Perception and action
- Philosophical foundations
- Artificial intelligence
