Aaron Son

Greetings! My name is Aaron Son! I am going on my fifth year here at UC Merced majoring in Computer Science and Engineering in hopes of a career in mobile app development! I’m from a small town in the San Fernando Valley in California called North Hills, to be exact! (About 15 minutes from Six Flags … but who’s counting?) I also work as a curriculum assistant for the School of Natural Sciences, so you might be attending a class in a room I chose! Outside of work, I am pretty involved on campus. I am a part of a business organization called Alpha Kappa Psi and I am also a founder of the Pi Kappa Phi Colony here at UC Merced! Attending this beautiful school has opened up so many opportunities for me, and I can’t wait to say the same for you! Go Bobcats!


Abigail Renteria

Hi Bobcats! My name is Abigail Renteria, but you can call me Abby! I am from Orange County, California. I am a third year Bioengineering major declared premed. I hope to pursue a career in the medical field as either a physician or an engineer for medical equipment. I am heavily involved on campus. I work for the Recreation Department as the supervisor for tutoring student athletes, along with being a UC Merced campus tour guide. I am a member of Phi Delta Epsilon, Alpha Class member of Phi Mu, the American Medical Student Association and Global Medical Training. Additionally, I am an undergraduate researcher in Linda Hirst’s lab studying biophysics. Want to know more about how UC Merced’s countless opportunities have influenced my medical school journey? Adrian Nunez

Hello! My name is Adrian Nunez! I'm a senior and am very excited to be finishing my last year here at UC Merced. I'm a transfer student from lovely Merced, California, and believe it or not, in the one year I have attended UC Merced, I have fallen in love with this place. Exciting things are happening and continue to happen here every day. We are, after all, a pioneering school. I'm a Psychology major, and active brother of Kappa Sigma, a social fraternity here on campus. I'm a tour guide and also a transfer student ambassador for the Office of Admissions. It's not hard to see that there is a lot of opportunity on this campus, and I'm excited for you to explore the diversity and what our campus has to offer. Welcome to UC Merced! My name is Alejandra Lamarque, and I'm from sunny San Diego. I'm a Political Science major with a minor in Philosophy. I hope to join TFA and eventually go into politics. I'm the Recruitment Chair for the Democrats at UC Merced, the Director of Expansion for the UC Merced Law Clinic, an Hermana in Hermanas Unidas, and I'm part of the External Office under the Associated Students of UC Merced (ASUCM). Barbara Melo

Hello, and welcome to UC Merced! My name is Barbara Melo, and I'm from San Jose, California. I am a fourth year student studying Human Biology. After graduating, I plan to apply for medical school and become a pediatrician. Within my four years here, I have been involved in Students Advocating Law and Education, an organization that mainly focuses on providing resources for undocumented students on campus. I also am a member of one of our women's Greek organizations, Kappa Kappa Gamma. Choosing UC Merced has been one of the best decisions of my life, not only because it has helped shaped me into who I am, but because it also has allowed me to shape it into what I would like the school to become. Brandon McFarland

Mun-a-hoo! My name is Brandon McFarland, and I am a senior from Auberry, California! I am majoring in Earth Systems Science and have dreams to become an environmental lawyer someday. Since I started attending UC Merced, I've been a part of many different clubs on campus such as Dance Coalition, am a leader in the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, and recently became a member of our brand new Native American Club! There are so many ways you can get involved with the campus and the community! Bridget Ise

Welcome, Bobcats! My name is Bridget Ise, and I am a sophomore here at our beautiful UC Merced campus! I was born in Tokyo, Japan, but I was raised in Walnut, California, near Los Angeles. I am currently studying Management and Business Economics. I hope to find a career in either marketing or public relations, and I have been able to expand my connections with all of the different clubs and organizations we offer here at UC Merced. I am currently a member of the women's fraternity Kappa Kappa Gamma and hope to get more involved in campus life as I continue on my journey at UC Merced. Carl Posadas

Greetings, Bobcats! My name is Carl Posadas, and I am a fourth year Chemistry major here at UC Merced in hopes of having an occupation in the pharmaceutical field. I like to stay involved on campus. I am a member of the Pilipino American Alliance, Pilipino Americans in Sciences and Engineers, the American Chemical Society, and INTRO movement, a dance club that performs at many UC Merced events. I also am doing research in the field of organic synthesis. Attending UC Merced has been one of the greatest decisions of my life, because it has given me endless opportunities to expand my horizons. Cecilia Plascencia

Bienvenidos! My name is Cecilia Plascencia, and I am from Los Angeles. I am a third year student studying Psychology with a minor in Writing. I want to eventually become a psychologist. I started getting involved during my freshman year. I have been involved in community council and InterVarsity, which is a Christian Fellowship. I currently am the Vice President of Community service for the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. I am also part of the public relations chair for Psi Chi, an International Honor Society for both Psychology and Cognitive Science majors.UC Merced is a beautiful campus that offers so many opportunities that I will be able to utilize in my career. Since the first time I stepped foot on this campus, I knew this is where I had to be, and I can't express how much I love my campus. I am a transfer student from Ventura County in Southern California, aspiring to get into aerodynamics after I graduate. Hello, everyone! My name is Citklali Ibarra, and I am going into my last semester as a Psychology major. I am from beautiful Merced, California, yet attending UC Merced has made this little town even more of a home. I am a transfer student from Merced College and chose UC Merced because of the amazing opportunities that this university has to offer. On campus, I am involved as a tour guide, an Orientation leader and a peer instructor, and a member of the women’s fraternity Delta Delta Delta. I am in the process of applying to graduate school in the hopes of becoming a student affairs professional to help increase access, equity and success for students in higher education. David Hernandez

Welcome, future Bobcats! My name is David Hernandez, and I hail from wonderful Los Angeles County and the city of Lancaster for those in the know. I am just one of the many wonderful tour guides that our campus has to offer. I'm a second year Computer Science and Engineering major, and whenever I'm not hitting the books, you'll find me in the gym pumping iron. I'm also a very active member of the recently founded Boxing Club on campus, despite the fact that I'm a very pacifist person. This is my second year of being involved with the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers chapter here on campus (Ingenieros Unidos); we're all about developing your already amazing talents to aid you in finding career opportunities post-graduation. I'm so excited to share with you everything that this amazing university has to offer!


Elijah Maxfield

Hello! My name is Elijah Maxfield, and I am a third year Biological Sciences major from the city of San Gabriel, California. I am involved with two fraternities on campus, one being the professional medical fraternity Phi Delta Epsilon, and a social fraternity called Sigma Chi. I'm also involved in a research lab under Michael Cleary, studying RNA decay in fruit flies. My love for UC Merced stems from my involvement and experiences I've had in my two years here. The school has become a home for me, and I can honestly say I have enjoyed my time here.


Esteban Martínez

Hello! My name is Esteban Martínez, I am from Long Beach, California, and I am a third year student here at UC Merced (AKA The Best School in America, where the sun shines just a little bit brighter!). I am an Economics major with a double minor in Spanish and Community Research and Service. At this moment, I do not have a set career that I want to pursue, but I do know that the only option I have is to be successful. That being said, I am highly involved on campus in various clubs and organizations such as the Martial Arts Club, Omega Delta Phi Fraternity Inc., the Entrepreneurial Society, Habitat for Humanity, Intramural Co-Ed Soccer and Bobcat Boxing. I love Merced, both the city and the school. Though many people might simply overlook UC Merced for its location, I can honestly say that this is MY DREAM SCHOOL, and I am a proud Bobcat! Eva Perez

Hello! My name is Eva Perez, and I'm from San Diego! I'm currently a third year student studying Sociology in hopes of pursuing a career in civil law. That being said, I've gotten involved in the law community here in Merced. I am currently Vice President of our pre-law fraternity, Phi Alpha Delta. I volunteer with Merced Youth Court to bring restorative justice to juveniles. I also started my own club, Common Ground, which is centered on discussion of social issues. In my free time, I love to play Just Dance with my suitemates and have a good laugh over silly Lifetime movies. If I’m not on campus, catch me exploring surrounding attractions such as Yosemite National Park or San Francisco! UC Merced has allowed me to grow academically, professionally and socially. Genesis Diaz

Welcome! My name is Genesis Diaz, and I am originally from Fullerton in Southern California - the O.C. I am a senior majoring in Political Science and minoring in Spanish. I am ready to meet you all and make your experience that much more memorable. This is my third year of being a tour guide, and I am excited to show you my HOME. Being a Bobcat is such a privilege, and I am forever grateful. I am an Orientation leader over the summer and help hire new tour guides. I have worked as intern for the U.S. Office of the Solicitor General in Washington, D.C., and my next journey will be applying to law school. I am so happy to belong to a school that focuses on academics and research. Being at UC Merced is truly wonderful because of the opportunities that are offered here. In my spare time, you can find me running on the treadmill, reading or watching my favorite show, "Once Upon a Time." If you want a fun, enthusiastic tour, request me! Janelle Cardenas

Hello! My name is Janelle Cardenas, and I am from the Santa Clarita Valley in Southern California. I am a senior with a major in Sociology. I am a member of a women’s fraternity on campus, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and I was on the UC Merced cheer team until I did a semester abroad. I was able to study in the culturally diverse city of London while traveling to six different countries in Europe. I have learned a lot in my time here in Merced, and I hope l can have the opportunity to show you just how great it can be!


Lacy O'Dell

Hello! My name is Lacey O’Dell, and I am a fourth year Human Biology major with a minor in Psychology here at UC Merced. In the future, I plan to attend graduate school to become involved in research in a stem cell laboratory and eventually become a forensic technician. I originally am from a small town in Northern California called Clearlake, which is just north of Napa County. This is my first year as a tour guide, and I am incredibly excited to share my experiences and love for this school with you. On campus, I am involved in many clubs and programs, such as the long boarding club and the Guardian Scholars program. Manar Harran

السلام عليكم Alssalam Ealaykum! What's up, Bobcats? My name is Manar Harran, and I am a second year Management and Business Economics major here at UC Merced. My family is originally from the beautiful country of Sudan, and I am from the cool capital city of Sacramento. Many students ask me why I am so passionate and happy to be a student at this university, and let me share with you why. I came to this campus as a first year student very excited and optimistic; I couldn't wait to get involved. My ambition shined through from the beginning, leading me to get involved in some of the great opportunities here on campus. Some of my involvements include being an active member of the Black Student Union, Muslim Student Association, African Student Union, AFRO, Spoken Word Club, INTRO Dance Company, Campus Activities Board and Bobcat Leadership Series, and also being a brother of the oldest, most prestigious business fraternities recognized as Alpha Kappa Psi. The love I have for this university is second to none. My Bobcat pride has certainly grown since the time I first laid eyes on UC Merced. Yes, we are the smallest UC; however, the opportunities you will encounter as a Bobcat cannot be matched by any other UC. We are the pioneers of this university, and knowing that we are a part of its growth brings warmth to my hearth. The jobs I have held on campus have certainly helped me reflect and share my passion at this university. Last year, I worked as a Bobcat caller, and this year as a tour guide; both positions in which I can help share my love for this campus. Marleyna Rubin

Hello! My name is Marleyna Rubin, and I am a fourth year student here at UC Merced. I am studying Mechanical Engineering. I originally am from a small town in the Bay Area called Oakley, which is only a two-hour drive from campus. My involvement on campus includes being an officer in the women's fraternity Delta Delta Delta, and a member of the Society of Women Engineers. What I hope to show every student who comes on one of my tours is the countless opportunities at UC Merced and all the possibilities of what this campus can become if they attend. It is truly a magical place with an amazing future awaiting it.


Rei Pham

Hi! My name is Rei Pham, and welcome to UC Merced! I was born in Vietnam and currently reside in Sacramento. I'm in my third year here at the beautiful UC Merced, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Public Health. Aside from academics, I am a part of the Vietnamese Student Association and a member of the women's fraternity Kappa Kappa Gamma. In my free time, I am a research assistant in the UC Merced PsychoNeuroEncrinology Lab and dance my heart out. Outside of school, I write for Chopsticks Alley, a multimedia platform, about my college experiences, and am in a nonprofit organization called Miss Vietnam of Northern California - Intercollegiate, where I volunteer to help the Asian American community around the Bay Area every single month! This is my first year as a tour guide, and I am so excited to share the love and pride I have for this university. Hi! My name Is Ricardo Hernandez, and I was born and raised in San Diego. I am a second year Mechanical Engineering major looking to work with robotics in the future. I am in a few clubs and organizations here at UC Merced, such as Kappa Sigma, a social fraternity, Ingenieros Unidos, an engineering club that helps you attend conferences to discover your options as a new engineer, and Bobcat Boxing. In addition to being a tour guide, I also work at the Career/Transfer Center at Merced College and I am a research assistant in three labs at UC Merced. Salma Memon

Hello, everyone! Welcome to UC Merced, a place I'm so lucky to call my home away from home! My name is Salma Memon, and I am from the beautiful and sunny Orange County, California. I am going into my third year here at UC Merced studying Biological Sciences with an emphasis in Human Biology. One day, I hope to become a surgeon and work for Doctors Without Borders. On campus, I am involved in many different organizations that have helped me grow as an individual as well as network with extremely influential people. I served as the President of Global Medical Training, an organization that sends students to Central America to provide medical aid to impoverished communities in the region. I also am a member of Phi Delta Epsilon, an international co-ed medical fraternity that works closely with the Children's Miracle Network as well as the Children's Hospital here in the Central Valley. In addition, I have served as part of the legislative branch of the Associated Students of UC Merced, our campus' student government, and jhave advocated on behalf of students on a variety of issues both at the local and the state levels. In my time here at UC Merced, I also have been given the incredible opportunity to sit as the undergraduate representative on the Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Campus Climate, Culture, and Inclusion. Sena Griffith

Hello! My name is Sena Griffith, and I am from a rural town called Petaluma, California, which is north of San Francisco. I am a fourth year Developmental Biology major and Psychology minor with future plans of becoming a doctor of chiropractic. This is my third year working as a tour guide, and I love sharing my experiences and admiration of UC Merced with campus visitors. I am a member and officer of the women's fraternity Kappa Kappa Gamma and also involved in various other leadership positions within campus organizations. Victoria Mollard

Hello! My name is Victoria Mollard, and I come from the beautiful town of Santa Rosa, California, which is north of San Francisco. I am in my second year studying Biological Sciences here at UC Merced, and am loving every minute of it! I am a student athlete playing for the UC Merced Women’s Soccer team, allowing me to compete in the sport I love for the school I adore. When I am not in the classroom or at soccer practice, I like to spend my time listening to music, exercising in the gym or staying active in the beautiful outdoors of the Central Valley. Welcome, everyone! My name is Xavier Juarez, and I am from Sacramento. Here at UC Merced, I am a third year student majoring in Human Biology and minoring in Psychology. My goal is to pursue a career in the medical field in the near future and help as many people as I can! I am the community outreach chair for SAAC (Student Athletic Advisory Committee) and a member of our S.A.F.E program here on campus.
