Information for Parents and Families

Information for Parents and Families

At UC Merced, we recognize that the support and encouragement of family members can make a big difference in helping students consider higher education and apply for college. We have included information below that will help you and your student learn more about the newest University of California campus. Please feel free to contact us if you have any other questions: (209) 228-4682 or

If your son or daughter chooses UC Merced, they benefit from the prestige of the venerable University of California with a small student-to-faculty ratio that fosters individual success.  That is the reason 68% of graduating seniors have conducted research with faculty or assisted them with a special creative project during their time at UC Merced.

UC Merced guarantees housing to first year students and transfer students who meet the deadlines stated on the Housing Web site. Students live in beautiful new residence halls on campus. Off campus housing is available and affordable as well. Visit the Housing Web site for more information.

Whether our UC Merced Bobcats live on campus or off, we make it easy for them to get around. Students can catch CatTracks to take them to and from class, to the store, downtown or a variety of other locations. You can view the schedule, stops and routes on the CatTracks Web site.

Financial Aid

Receiving an excellent education and experiencing university life are invaluable.  In that spirit, UC Merced is firmly committed to making UC Merced financially attainable for students.  Read about the Blue and Gold Opportunity. Learn more on the Financial Aid page for parents and families.
